ABOUT 8000 MILES
Traveling nearly 8000 Miles together from the city of Chong Ching, China to Chicago, long-time friends Shawn Li (TL’s Four Seasons), Ben Li and Wan Cai Li (formerly with Double Li) developed plans to open a Chinese and Japanese restaurant together when they arrived in the US. With an endless list of classic Sichuan recipes collected over the years and a love for the art of sushi, to bring bona fide traditional flavors with a contemporary twist to the city they originated in when they arrived in America, Chicago.
Co-owners of 8000 Miles, Shawn Li and Ben Li, met when they were just 19-years-old in China where both were schooled in Chinese cuisine and sushi. Wan Cai Li, also an owner, was a master chef at a four-star hotel in Chong Ching and eventually moved to the United States where he opened Double Li restaurant in Chinatown with Ben
Shawn went on to open TL’s Four Seasons restaurant in downtown Bartlett and also became co-owner of PL8 restaurant in Barrington. Our name is very simple: our Chinese partners doorsteps in Chong Ching to the front door in Roselle is 8000 miles.
The reward of our captivating journey is 8000 Miles Chinese + Japanese. We thank you for your patronage, we look forward to your business and hope you will enjoy our fresh, contemporary and authentic Asian cuisine.
There's an interesting aside involving the influence of the movie Batman Begins and the popularity of the Asian backstory training myth. There was a rumor that Christian Bale had made reservations a week in advance under an alias, and the staff wanted to surprise him. They searched online and found a webstore with a huge selection of Batman hoodies, and express shipped enough for all the staff. But it turned out that the rumor was just that, a rumor. Yet the staff did all wear Batman hoodies one chilly day as they served customers - who actually loved the outfits. Management nixed the idea going forward, so it was a one-time only affair. But Batman does live on, somewhere in the minds and spirits of the staff and they are ready in case any of the actors do show up.
